Social Media Revolution
January 15, 2010
Many are calling this generation the biggest shift since the industrial revolution. I believe that this statement has been true for a while now. The world has changed so much in this last decade alone with the constantly updating technology. It is not even a challenge to keep up with the new technology anymore for the reason that social media has taken over the world. Nowadays you do not even need to try to find the latest products or news but they will find you via social networking sites. Even education has become a factor in this equation. Basically, what is happening is education through the computer is outsmarting traditional face-to-face education. The internet has changed so much in the last few years that e-mails are now a dying breed. Colleges are beginning to not even give out their e-mails to incoming students because they no longer are used. It is amazing how much things have changed and the video I have recently watched have opened my eyes to how much the world really has gone through and is still going through a Revolution.

Obama Afghanistan strategy: More troops in quickly, drawdown in 2011
December 2, 2009
Tuesday December 1, President Barack Obama explained that there will be a deployment of 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. This is part of a strategy to reverse the momentum of the Taliban and make the government stable. The additional troops will be sent away quickly beginning in early 2010 and starting to withdraw some time during 2011. Obama’s goal is to wihdraw most of the U.S. forces by the end of his term in 2013.
This is the second increase the president has ordered to the Islamic Country since his term began in January.
In his speech Tuesday, Obama said his strategy had 3 objectives:
“• Deny al Qaeda a safe haven
• Reverse the Taliban’s momentum and deny it the ability to overthrow Afghanistan’s government
• Strengthen Afghanistan’s security forces and government
The additional troops was one way to achieve these, he said. Other strategies will include holding Afghan government leaders accountable for corruption, focus assistance on areas that could help the lives of Afghans, and securing the country’s border with Pakistan.” (cnn)

The Dream
November 5, 2009
I am in my bed trying to fall asleep. I flip from left to right and stare at the ceiling for a while. Everything about my day is being replayed in my mind. I would give anything to just fall asleep and escape to la la land. The next thing I know, I wake up in an elaborate forest filled with bright colored plants and mythical creatures. I do not know whether I am awake or still asleep, but I am kind of liking it. As I walk through the forest I pass by I see many unusual things. Then, I see him. The big hairy man himself, Sasquatch. “Sasquatch!” I yell. “Hello, Zach,” he replies, “what are you doing here?” “I’m not exactly sure,” I answer, “I guess I’m just admiring your wonderful forest.” He then thanks me and asks if I would like to take a dip in the Strawberry River. Of course I took up this offer because I knew it was a once in a life time chance. So we went tubing down the Strawberry River. I then realized how late it must be and told Sasquatch that I should be getting home. He asked me if I wanted to fly so we would get there faster. “You can fly?” I asked surprised. “Of course I can,” he responded. So I hopped on his back and we took off the ground. Then I realized how unreal this all was and that I must be dreaming. So then I woke up, back in my bedroom where I started. It was all a dream.

College Affordability
November 2, 2009
When it comes to college, you have to visit all of the schools that you are interested in, no matter what the price may be. You can receive almost any education you want if you know enough about financial aid. If you understand this process any education can become a reality. You just need to keep the following in mind.
An important rule to follow is to subtract the financial aid package you are considering and subtract it from the institutions stated cost of attendance. This is how the actual cost of attendance is found. Whether your situation be financial need, academic performance, talent, or any other factor, it will impact the scholarships or grants offered to you. The cut-off is set at a surprisingly high level so you shouldn’t assume that you won’t qualify for aid.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid provides information used by the federal government to determine what your family’s expected contribution is. This amount will be the same no matter which school you choose to go to. It is a way for the school to build a financial aid package especially for you. The FAFSA can be completed simply online. It should be submitted by March 1. The are many other financial aid forms that can be submitted besides the FAFSA also.
Need is another important factor in determining what kind of financial aid that is fit for you. Determining need is defined as the difference between the full cost of attendance and the estimated family contribution. This is determined by the federal government using the FAFSA. The school may modify the estimated family contribution based on additional information that you provide. A financial need does not put you in a low income category. Situations in your family such as the number of children or the number of children in a higher education can play a role here. The time it may take to earn your degree should also be considered. it could take five or more years to earn a bachelor’s degree. This would multiply your tuition by five or more. The salary you are planning to earn after you graduate should also be considered. Your need can easily be determined if these factors are put into the equation.
In conclusion, no school can be too expensive for you. If you want to receive a certain education then there is plenty of financial aid that can be helpful toward making your college decision. There are plenty of ways to do so, and many factors that must be taken into consideration before determining what type of aid you need. The main point here is that you can make almost any education a reality.
